RAINBOW READING at RUFFORD

At Rufford Primary and Nursery School we understand that reading is essential to your child’s future, and are therefore keen to promote the importance in lots of different ways.

Our reading rewards system is called ‘Rainbow Reading’.

Please encourage your child to read 3 times per week. Your child will have a reading card (instead of a reading record) that you can sign each time that they read. They will start with a red reading card. When they have completed that card, they will have an orange one, then a yellow one until they have read through all the colours of the rainbow. Below shows the order of the cards:

Children will receive a bronze certificate when they have completed the red and orange cards, a silver certificate when they have completed the yellow and green cards and a gold certificate and a book when they have completed the blue and purple cards. 

As a reward for their commitment to reading, those children that complete the gold card will receive a trophy and be entered into a prize draw to go on a trip to Waterstones to choose a book. It is really important that your child looks after their reading card, so that their teacher knows which reward they need.
